The 2-joule Sergeant (a match for the Power Wizard 2000) can keep out deer with both baited and unbaited electric fences. Voltage data: Where the weed burden is light to moderate (providing nothing better than a 200 to 500 ohm path to the ground) the Sergeant will maintain over 4,000 volts on the line, enough to shock deer reliably with an unbaited fence. Even when confronted with a heavy 100-ohm weed burden the Sergeant can keep over 3,000 volts on the line, more than the 2,500 needed to reliably shock deer with a baited fence. Joule range: The Sergeant puts out a 1.5 joule pulse on a 500-ohm circuit and a 2.1 joule pulse on a 100-ohm circuit (for more about joules see About Fence Power and Joules). Other animals: The Sergeant is well-suited to containing most livestock (including cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats) and can deter a wide range of predators including coyotes, wolves, javelinas, feral pigs, bears, and bison. Excellent for powering long horse fences, the 2 joule Sergeant is suited to dealing with a wide range of electric fence conditions.
