Field Guardian Major (FGM-900) Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger, UL Listed, Rated at 9 Joules (Actual 3-9.5) The Major (a match for the Power Wizard 9000) is designed for large farms and ranches, very long fences, and difficult weed conditions. It can be used to exclude deer, to contain virtually any livestock, and to exclude large predators including feral pigs, wolves, bears, and bison. Under ideal conditions this charger can power up to 150 miles of fence. Voltage and joule data: Like most of the really powerful modern chargers, the Major has a relatively modest output when the weed burden is light (3 joules on a 500-ohm load) but raises this output to cope with a heavier burden, putting out 9.5 joules to deal with a large weed burden that creates a 50-ohm circuit. This arrangement helps the charger maintain sufficient voltage on the fence (6,000 volts on a 500-ohm circuit, 3,600 volts on a 50-ohm circuit) to cope with a wide range of conditions.
