The DE-600 (a match for the Power Wizard 1500) is a good electric fence charger for powering both baited and unbaited electric deer fences, so long as the deer fences are not very long and do not contain a lot of complex electrical connections. Voltage data: The DE-600 will maintain over 2500 volts on the electric fence line (the minimum needed to shock deer with baited electric deer fences) as long as the deer fences’ electrical connections are strong and the weed burden is not major, providing less than a 100-ohm path to the ground. Similarly, it will maintain more than 4000 volts on the line, the minimum needed to shock deer with unbaited deer fences, so long as the weed burden is minor (providing less than a 200-ohm path to the ground). Joule range: The DE-600 produces a 1.5-joule pulse on a 100-ohm circuit and a slightly weaker (1.3-joule) pulse on a 500-ohm circuit (for more information about joules see About Fence Power and Joules). Other animals: An ideal electric fence charger for most horse fences enclosing small to large pastures (for more on horses click here), the DE-600 can maintain the necessary horse and pig minimum of 2000 volts on the line even when nature imposes a major weed burden providing a super-easy 60-ohm path to the ground. This electric fence charger will also keep 4000 volts on the line (the recommended sheep, goat, and bear minimum) so long as the weed burden is moderate and does not offer anything better than a 200-ohm path to the ground.
