The Dare Sentry 300 is a high-performance electric fence charger suited to powering short and mid-length baited electric deer fences with light to moderate weed burdens, and to powering unbaited deer fences where the weed burden is light. The DS-300 can use either a 6-volt or 12-volt battery as its power source. For campers, hikers, and horse exhibitors we recommend combining the light-weight (2.5 pound) DS-300 with a 6-pound battery (01-17 below) that will keep it running for 3 days. For permanent installations, a A 55 amp hour 12 volt battery will power the DS-300 for 5 weeks; while a 110 amp hour 12 volt battery will run it for 10 weeks. We do not sell large “deep cycle” batteries (the kind to get) on this website, but they can be obtained at www.ebatteriestogo.com or from any local store that sells boat or golf cart batteries. Voltage data: The DS-300 electric fence charger will keep more than 4,000 volts on the line, enough to shock deer with unbaited deer fences and also to shock large predators including bears so long as the weed burden is moderate (affording nothing better than a 300 ohm path to the ground); and it will maintain more than the 2500 volts needed to reliably shock deer with baited deer fences so long as the weed burden provides nothing more than a 150-ohm path to the ground. Joule range: The DS-300 puts out a 0.6-joule pulse on a 500-ohm circuit and a 0.5-joule pulse on a 100-ohm circuit. (For more about joules see About Fence Power and Joules). Other animals: Besides powering deer fences, the DS-300 is well-suited for use with portable horse corrals and paddocks, and is also capable of protecting campsites against javelinas, feral pigs, foxes, wolves, mountain lions, bears, and other large predators. General data: The DS-300 has a flashing light that shows when the unit and its immediate connections are working properly. The unit features an all-weather case, built-in lightning protection, and advanced engineering that provides peak output under difficult conditions. The electric fence charger comes with instructions and a one-year manufacturer’s warranty covering defects and lightning damage. Batteries not included.
