Parmak Magnum 12 U.O. (MAG-12-U.O.), Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger, UL Listed, 0.5 Joules
Parmak’s Magnum 12 U.O. is weatherproof, portable, and comes in a case with a lifetime manufacturer’s guarantee against rust. This electric fence charger, which works off a 12-volt battery, is capable of powering a baited electric deer fence. If one uses the standard electric fence model (a single perfectly connected 12.5 gauge steel wire), the Magnum 12 U.O. can power 30 miles of fence. We like this charger because it demands relatively little battery power. Parmak battery 01-32 in the table below can power the MAG-12-U.O. for at least 3 weeks, while a 70 amp hour battery can do so for 3 months. We do not sell large “deep cycle” batteries (the kind to get) on this website, but they can be obtained easily enough at www.ebatteriestogo.com or from any local store that sells boat or golf cart batteries. Voltage data: Parmak reports that where weeds provide a minor (500 ohm) path to the ground this charger can maintain 6100 volts on the line; and where the weed burden is major (providing a 100-ohm path to the ground) it will keep 3100 volts on the deer fence line, substantially more than the 2500 volts needed to reliably shock deer with a baited deer fence. The MAG-12-U.O. is rated by us at about 0.5 joules. Other animals: Besides powering baited deer fences, the MAG-12-U.O. is suited to containing sheep and goats and deterring small predators. It features advanced solid state circuitry (Ferrite 100% solid state inverter circuitry) and a performance meter on its face that indicates whether the charger and its immediate connections are operating properly.
