Catalog > Electric Fence Insulators > Steel U-Posts and Chain-Link Fence Economy insulators for 1.75-2.125" wide U-posts/Chain-link fence and for wire, polywire, or polyrope About Steel U-Post Insulators: Dare’s U-post insulators work by firmly grasping the two projecting sides of the U-post, and so the width of the U-post is important. Most of the insulators listed (products 7-31 through 7-34) can accommodate U-posts between 1.75 and 2.125 inches wide, and one type (products 7-31 and 7-32) can also grasp chain-link fence. The Safety Top’R is designed to fit over U-posts of this width and to accommodate wire, polywire, and polyrope. The corner knob (product 7-13, suited to use with any studded steel post) is good at navigating wire, polywire, or polyrope around fence bends and corners. One other type of insulator (products 7-37 and 7-38) is designed for wider 2.35" (Steel City) U-posts and for use with wire, polywire, and polyrope. Economy Insulators for 1.75-2.125” Wide U-posts/Chain Link Fence and for Wire, Polywire, and Polyrope/Braid Insulators 07-32, 07-102, and 07-103 will attach to U-posts 1.75 to 2.125 inches wide and also to chain link fences. Please note: These insulators will NOT attach to the U-posts sold on this website, which are 1.25 inches wide. Use insulators 07-104 or 07-104A (see below) for these narrower U-posts. 
Extender Insulator for All U-posts, T-posts, and Chain Link Fence The versatile 07-104 is a 5-inch insulator (actually an Elfin-style insulator on a metal Essex-style base) that can attach to almost any post and also to chain link fence. The photos above show it attached to chain link fence and to the front and back of a T-post. The metal legs of the 07-104 can spread apart and are secured at the back with a cotter pin included in the package. The 07-104 will accept metal wire or polywire. Like all extender insulators, it is not suitable for use on high-tensile fences. 
Insulator for Posts up to 2 Inches Wide and All Round Conductors The extremely useful 3.5-inch extender insulator 07-104A is made to attach to any posts or pipes up to 2 inches in diameter, including the pipes commonly found on farm gates and fences. It can also carry any metal wire, polywire, polyrope or polybraid up to 3/8 inch in diameter. Use it to hang any of these conductors from any posts or pipes up to 2 inches thick. Insulator for 1.75-2.125" Wide U-Posts and 0.5-1.5" Polytape Holds the tape well; can be used to navigate fence bends and corners. Available in yellow or white. Safety Top'r Insulator for Wire, Polywire, and Polyrope Designed to fit over the tops of steel U-posts 1.75-2.125" wide, this insulator can accommodate wire, polywire, and polyrope but not polytape. Available in yellow only. Corner Knob Insulators for Wire, Polywire, and Polyrope The small holding arms of the insulators for wire, polywire, or polyrope (products 07-22 thru 07-27) are not well-suited to securing conductors where the fence is going around bends or corners. Two good alternatives for this purpose are Dare's heavy-duty black polyethylene corner knob, and extra heavy-duty "Double U" end and corner insulator. Both will hold these conductors securely, and both can themselves be secured to a U-post with wire or synthetic twine. In addition, the Double-U end and corner insulator is suitable for high-tensile use and can withstand extremely low temperatures such as those found in Alaska.
